Winter: With 1,167 skiable acres, 121 trails, 16 lifts, a terrain park, a superpipe, and over 300 inches of average snowfall, Crested Butte Mountain Resort is one of the top ten family ski resorts in the United States. The new adventure park that opened in 2010 brings summer excitement to some good old fashioned winter fun. Rock climbing, a bungee jump, miniature golf, a tubing hill with its own pulley lift, and a new zipline tour all insure that families have plenty of additional activities should they take a break from world class skiing! None of these strike your fancy, then check out some other winter activities such as snowmobiling, snowshoeing, nordic skiing, horse drawn sleigh-rides, dog sled tours, powder cat skiing, and ice fishing just to name a few!

Spring: Long referred to as a "shoulder season" this is an overlooked time of year. Thus the crowds are fewer and the vacation deals are fantastic! The wildflowers are starting to bloom, hiking trails are melting off, birds are singing, and rivers are running. All in all it is a fantastic time to explore Crested Butte with low rental rates and no crowds!

Summer: This is the season when Crested Butte shines! Our summer temps never break 80 degrees so it is always pleasant. The scenery is spectacular since Crested Butte is considered the Wildflower Capital of Colorado! Everywhere you look there are endless vistas with green hills and the most brilliant colors that nature has to offer! In addition there is hiking, jeeping, fishing, rock climbing, boating, ATV trails, Outdoor concerts, festivals, parades, hot air ballooning, hang gliding, mountain biking, road biking, etc. Whew! It's gets exhausting just trying to keep up with all of the activites in summer. And then of course there is the favorite activity for most of our guests, just plain ole relaxing! Take a book down to a quiet stream and unplug for a while. After all, you are on what the locals call, "Crested Butte Time.

Fall: Given that one of the largest aspen forests in the United States is right outside of Crested Butte makes for a spectacular setting when leaves change in the fall. Imagine all of the summer activities are still available but they are set against the backdrop of brilliant oranges, reds, and golds and Mother Nature puts on her biggest show of the season. With smaller crowds and temps that are mid sixties during the day and just cool enough for a fleece at night, the staff at Iron Horse will tell you this is their favorite season. We have some great family vacation deals this time of year and the fishing is at it's best!

No matter the time of year or season you choose, Crested Butte will become your favorite destination for years to come!
